Swami Vivekananda was a renowned Indian philosopher, monk, and spiritual leader who played a significant role in India’s cultural and intellectual history. He was born as Narendra Nath Datta on January 12, 1863, in Calcutta (now Kolkata), India. Swami Vivekananda was the disciple and spiritual heir of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, a great saint and mystic of 19th-century Bengal.
Swami Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Mission, a philanthropic and spiritual organization dedicated to the service of humanity. The mission has established hospitals, schools, and other charitable institutions in India and other parts of the world and continues to provide humanitarian services to the needy.
